What is Dragontrails Drama?

Dragontrails Drama School is an extra curricular drama program run by veteran performer Jill Frappier for young people of all levels of ability.

INTRODUCTORY CLASSES

Our introductory classes are designed to give the beginner a well rounded understanding of acting. We work on improvisation, developing characters, taking direction and line learning. These groups will showcase their work for family and friends in our studio.

ADAKA - Advanced 10-12 year olds

Students still have time for some improvisation, but emphasis is now on learning the craft of acting. They learn to create an ongoing subtext for their character and to rehearse in a professional manner. They perform their plays in a professional theatre. They learn skills like fencing and unarmed combat. If the play has songs, students will work with a choreographer and musical director. The main emphasis of these classes is learning to act. Students who have not previously worked with Dragontrails will need a placement interview to determine which class would be the best fit.

ULTRAKAKA - Advanced Teen Classes 13+

These students work with more mature material and perform once a year in a professional theatre. Their plays do not normally have musical numbers. Past successes include, Hay Fever, Blithe Spirit, Our Town, The Crucible, The Norman Conquests, Noises Off, Goodnight Desdemona/Good Morning Juliet, Waiting for the Parade, A Midsummer Night's Dream, & The Importance of Being Earnest. Placement in these classes for students who are not currently enrolled with Dragontrails is done via a placement interview with Jill.

March Break and Summer Camps

LET'S MAKE A MOVIE!

Each summer and March Break Dragontrails offers students an opportunity to star in a film that is shot on location in Toronto. Students work on acting for the camera, taking direction and are shown some rudiments of the technical side of movie making. Groups are limited to 8 students and each student has a major part. Films are screened in the fall at the National Film Board cinema in Toronto. Students will receive copies of their work at the screening. For students who are not currently students at Dragontrails a placement interview will be necessary.

YOUNGER DRAMA CAMPS

In this camp students play theatre games, improvize, swim paint and rehearse a play that will be showcased in our studio on the last night. This camp is only offered in the summer.
Maximum 12 students per camp.

OLDER DRAMA CAMPS

Here we delve deeper into the art of acting and present a full lengtht play at the end of the week
